Who can apply?
To be eligible to study in Canada
- - You must have been accepted by a school, college, university or other educational institution in Canada.
- - You must prove that you have enough money to pay for your:
- - tuition fees
- - living expenses for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada and
- - return transportation for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada.
- - You must be a law-abiding citizen with no criminal record and not be a risk to the security of Canada. You may have to provide a police certificate.
- - You must be in good health and willing to complete a medical examination, if necessary.
- - You must satisfy an immigration officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay.[ Top ]
How to apply?

Documents required to apply for a study permit in CANADA to Canadian High Commission
It is recommended that the completed study permit application be submitted to the Canadian High Commission 2 to 3 months before the start of classes. Processing times are a minimum of 28 working days to 3 months.
- - Completed Application for a Study Permit (IMM1294). If your spouse or common-law-partner and/or dependent children will accompany you, they must complete their own appropriate application form and attaché marriage and/or birth certificates. Note that school-age children must apply for a Study Permit.
- - Completed Supplementary Information Form. A separate form is required for each applicant 18 years of age or above
- - The correct process fee. Green receipt must be submitted.
- - Two (2) recent passport-sized photographs. The name and date of birth of the person appearing in the back of photographs
- - Valid passport(s); must be valid at least for 6 months
- - Original letter of acceptance from a recognized education institute in Canada showing duration of the program and any conditions of acceptance.
- - A personal study plan describing your proposed program of study as it relates to you academic, technical or vocational background.
- - All ORIGINAL education documents such as previous educational degrees, mark sheets, certificates or diplomas. Original IELTS and/or TOEFL scores, GRE, GMAT (if applicable) are strongly recommended
- - Proof of having applied for CAQ, if studying in Quebec. Note that a study permit cannot be issued until a valid CAQ is received.
- - Original proof of funds to support you and your dependents in Canada. These should include, but are not limited to: proof of financial support for the period of study such as evidence of employment/business, income tax returns, bank records, term deposit. If someone other than you or your parents is providing the funding, attaché a letter explaining why they are funding your studies, documentary evidence of the relationship between you and the individual, evidence of financial ability to support your studies and if sponsored by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, proof of their immigration status in Canada.
- - Police Certificate from each country or territory in which you have resided since attaining the age of 18 years.
- - Copy of National Identity Card for each applicant.
